You're Getting Warmer

Summary


SO, THE gluttony and obligatory assault on our livers is over for another year. Fun as it was, it is time to get diets back on track - by which I do not mean boring crispbread and a lettuce leaf, for any diet at this time of year must contain food to warm as well as nourish. What the body needs is simple and comforting dishes, with interesting flavours to excite the jaded palate, but with none of the excess rich fats and carbs that we have all been eating of late.

Warm salads are good news. Try a smoked haddock and rocket salad, which can be prepared and served in less than ten minutes - it's great for a Friday-night supper. And once you get the hang of it, you can experiment with using other fish, fresh or smoked - or, indeed, cheaper cuts of meat such as chicken livers, bacon or even black pudding.
