MERCERS, the actuarial firm, will this week warn that the days of retiring on a two-thirds of salary pension are over, as MPs begin their investigation into government plans to force all workers to save into personal pension accounts.

Stephen Haddrill, chief executive of the Association of British Insurers, will warn MPs that taxpayers could face a multi-billion- pound bill for running Personal Accounts when he gives evidence before MPs tomorrow afternoon.
