Q & a with Nick Barley

Summary


Nick Barley is executive director of The Lighthouse, Scotland's National Architecture and Design Centre, and of the Six Cities Design Festival, Scotland's biggest-ever celebration of design. The festival is hosting more than 200 exhibitions, talks and events in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Aberdeen, Stirling and Dundee until June 3, with the aim of showing how design can make a difference to people's lives. Nick began his career with architectural publishers Wordsearch and, from 1994, as publisher of titles including Blueprint, Eye, Design Review, Tate Magazine, Perspectives and Reportage. In 1998 he set up August Publications and has published a series of ground-breaking books on architecture. Nick has twice been on the Advisory Group for the UK-wide Architecture Week events. He lives in Edinburgh with his wife Fiona Bradley, who is director of the Fruitmarket Gallery, and their children, Felix and Morgan. (www.thelighthouse.co.uk, www.six-cities.com)
