Summary
AT THE heart of any young festival striving to set out its stall lies a certain element of naivety. Conceived in 2002 as a forum for Scottish writing, the Arches Theatre Festival quickly came under fire for its reliance on showcasing works that had already been performed. While heartily brandishing its festival tag, in reality it offered little by way of Scottish premieres or an international line-up.
Launched alongside the ATF, the Arches Live! festival, which runs in October, achieved greater success by offering a more varied and leftfield programme. The audience response to the more adventurous festival of the two has encouraged the theatre strand, over the past three years, to widen its scope, embrace fresh Scottish talent and premiere new works from around the globe as part of the ATF.See the full content of this document
