Summary
TENERIFE, the largest of Spain's popular Canary Islands, has long been synonymous with tackiness, raucous Brit bars and faded hotels. It was, in short, the last place I would normally consider for a tranquil family break. My preconceptions, though, have been proven to be drastically out of date. Since the excesses of the 1980s and 1990s, the island has undergone a startling renaissance.
It has had a lot to shake off.
