Summary


EVENTUALLY, after much knocking, David Mach opens the front door. "Bit disconcerting, eh?" He means the giant palms flanking the entrance to his studio, but he could just as easily be talking about the noise that, moments earlier, was coming from within. It was the sound of a good-going brawl.

The boxer's punchbag is still swinging on its chain when I enter, and here's something else that's disconcerting: an entire wall stacked floor to ceiling with files. They're labelled: "Owls", "Submarines", "Black People", "Students", "Anguish", "Big Food", "Typhoons", "People In Warm Jackets", "People With Drams", "Sun Readers", "Fetish" and so on.

Sculptor with a Thing for Big Women

Mach is the most physical of artists, so it's no surprise to discover that he boxes to let off steam, and only slightly disappointing that he doesn't wrestle owls or submarines or even Sun readers as well.
