THOUGH primarily a Grand Prix racer, British legend Stirling Moss also excelled as a sports car driver and recorded his most famous road race victory in Italy's Mille Miglia (Thousand Mile) event, a single road loop circuit which started and finished in Brescia.

Similar to his Mercedes teammates, Moss and his navigator, motor racing journalist Denis Jenkinson, ran a total of six reconnaissance laps beforehand.
