I 'M CURRENTLY in the cobra position. Even non-yoga practitioners should be able to picture this: lying face-down, using forearms to push up the body and head. I'm not actually doing yoga. I'm trying to alleviate excruciating back pain brought on by an ill-advised bout of painting and decorating.

Thanks to "snow chaos", December 2010 was inactive, even by my standards. Exercise over the festive period involved lifting vegan vol-au-vents from plate to mouth and not much else. Given this state of affairs, packing in 48 hours of extreme painting really wasn't a good idea, but that's what happens when you've set a date for getting a new carpet fitted.
