WORLD leaders joined thousands of veterans in France yesterday to commemorate the 65th anniversary of D-Day.

The sun shone as events took place for those who gave their lives during the campaign to free Europe from Nazi occupation. At a service amid the graves of thousands of dead US servicemen in Colleville-sur-Mer in Normandy, a wreath was laid followed by a 21- gun salute and a thunderous flyover.
