THE IRONY of the latest SPL reconstruction plans emerging in the aftermath of another blawhard Celtic-Rangers match wasn't lost on me - and I have a hunch it wasn't lost on you either, my Old Firm- disinclined friend.

The plans got some coverage last week, not as much as you might have thought, given the current wabbit state of oor fitba, but nowhere did I see it spelled out that there would be only two Celtic- Rangers games. Yes, our managers talked broadly about the proposals' key component - reducing the tedious over-familiarity factor of the SPL by 50 per cent - and Jim Jeffries ventured: "Playing each other four times has had its day." But no one came right out and said it: only two Old Firm matches. Just two. One, and then another. After that, no more. Finito.
