Hbos Mounts Fight for Stamp Duty Shake-Up

HBOS is to mount a campaign against the government's refusal to reform stamp duty, as evidence grows that first-time home-buyers are being squeezed out of the market.

The Edinburgh-based banking parent of Halifax and Bank of Scotland will urge ministers to raise the 1 per cent stamp duty threshold, which has not changed since 1993 when it was applied to a GBP 60,000 home.
