JUST when the anti-Chelsea tractor movement looks like developing from an eco-irritant into a full-blooded witch hunt, Land Rover, one of the oldest and arguably the best of the manufacturers, has come up with an engine which answers a lot of the criticisms levelled at this type of car.

Until this 3.6-litre engine arrived, the best diesel available in a British car was the 2.7-litre V6 unit developed by Peugeot for Jaguar.
