THE nights may be fair drawing oot, but I still want to stay huddled in at home of an evening. It'll take a lot to shift me from my fireside. That's partly to do with the deep groove that my bahookie has created in the sofa and partly because it's still far too cold outside to venture far from hearth and home. It's not as though I'm missing out on much. Turner Towers is fully equipped with modern technological advances such as a TV that allows a window on the world. But is there actually anything to watch?

Well, yes there is. There's loads I want to see. The problem is that I've seen it all before. I don't intend to come across in a world-weary, bored-with-life manner. I'm not exactly at the point where I am thoroughly jaded with all that is paraded in front of me for my amusement. Although, strangely, the lure of Hero Animals or Sally Morgan: Star Psychic just isn't doing it for me. Come on, who is setting their recorders for Police Interceptors - the gripping tale of the Essex Interceptor Squad? And, surely, once you've seen the title of Boozed Up Brits Abroad - Unleashed, you've pretty much no need to watch the actual programme. I can perfectly understand the lurid attraction of Anthea Turner: The Perfect Housewife. (Although, given the parlous state of her finances at the moment, I wonder how long she'll have a house to housewife in.) But really, Extreme Trains? I may well have many, many things in my life that I am embarrassed about. Things that I would never willingly confess to another living being. But I would have to be going some to admit to ever watching a programme - nay, a series - about trains. Extreme or otherwise.
