PRESIDENT Barack Obama extended a hand to America's hemispheric neighbours yesterday - including its harshest critics - and offered a Cold War foe the hope of a "new beginning".
At the Summit of the Americas in Port of Spain, Obama signalled he was ready to accept the proposal of Cuban President Raul Castro (pictured) of talks on issues once off-limits for Havana, including the scores of political prisoners held by the communist government.
