IT IS not necessarily a vision of the future that will warm Hibernian supporters. But in three years' time Steven Fletcher, Kevin McCann, Lewis Stevenson, Ross Chisholm, Ross Campbell and Darren McCormack might well be grouped together as a golden generation of players who learned their trade in Leith in a manner akin to the departed Scott Brown, Garry O'Connor, Derek Riordan, Steven Whittaker, Kevin Thomson and Ian Murray.

The prospect of continuing to be a feeder club for the Old Firm may hardly enthuse the Easter Road faithful. But disenchantment over the loss of seven players to the Glasgow clubs in the past two years may be tempered by the fact that only through harnessing talent can Hibs attract attention. And, as shown with the GBP 4.5m earned from Celtic for Brown in May and the GBP 2m apiece raked in for Whittaker this week and Thomson in January, it is interest that can pay handsome dividends.
