Blown Away

Summary


For the second time that morning the capricious wind was wreaking havoc. Warm, arid and scented it may have been, but it was an irritant nevertheless. At seven in the morning, bleary-eyed but willing, I had stepped out on to the tennis courts to avoid the searing mid-morning heat of the oh-so-typical Aegean day. My attempts to hurl down Rusedski-style bombs at my opponent, however, were being cruelly thwarted by the elements.

As the ball sailed into the air prior to connection with my flailing racket, a gust of wind would send it careering out of reach. It was neither elegant nor effective, and, really, it should have served as a warning.
